The PosiTector 6000 FNDS probe is used to measure the individual thicknesses of both the paint and the zinc layers in a duplex coating system with a single reading. Duplex coating systems use a combination of two corrosion protection systems typically paint or powder coating over galvanized steel (hot-dip, electro or zinc spray metallizing). The resultant corrosion protection is superior to either protection system used independently. In Duplex mode, the PosiTector 6000 FNDS utilizes both magnetic (ferrous) and eddy current (non-ferrous) principles simultaneously to calculate and display the individual paint and zinc layer thicknesses. The magnetic principle is used to measure the combined paint/zinc thickness over the ferrous substrate, and the eddy current principle is used to measure the paint thickness over the non-ferrous zinc coating. The zinc thickness is calculated by subtracting the paint thickness from the combined paint/zinc thickness measurement.

The ElektroPhysik MikroTest Banana Gauge, Magnetic Coating Thickness Gauge has been the most widely used coating thickness gauge in the world over the last 40 years. The MikroTest complies with the highest technical standards of all analogue magnetic coating thickness gauges. This magnetic coating thickness gauge works on the magnetic attraction principle to measure all non-magnetic coatings on steel and galvanic nickel on steel. The balanced measuring system of the MikroTest ensures accurate readings at any angle: horizontal, vertical and overhead. Also, the gauge allows measurements on curved surfaces. It is also able to provide you with precise measurements in tubes and on round parts due to the automatic operation. The measurement of the coating thickness is based on magnetic attraction. The attractive force is related to the distance between a permanent magnet and a steel substrate. This distance represents the thickness of the coating under measure. The magnet is lifted from the surface by means of a spring connected to the magnet arm. The force needed to lift the magnet is directly related to the angle of rotation of the torsion spring. This measuring principle is also especially suited for electroplated nickel on copper, aluminum and other non-ferrous metals. This measurement principle ensures fully automatic measurement where no power supply or calibration is required.

The measuring comb SurfaTest is directly set on a wet lacquer coating upon application of lacquer and both the outer teeth of the measuring comb are thrust into the base. The thickness of the lacquer coating can be read at 16 measuring points; the wet film thickness is that between the last tooth wet with lacquer and the first dry tooth without lacquer. After use, the measuring comb has to be cleaned with the right solvent.The wet film thickness gauge SurfaTest is made of stainless steel and has an embossed scale.

The OG212 Tooke Gage II is a precision measurement tool for inspection and thickness measurement (in accordance with ASTM D4138) of single or multiple coats on any substrate, and for microscopic observation and measurement of substrate and film defects. The OG212 Tooke Paint Inspection Gage II uses an illuminated 50-power microscope with measuring reticle, and mounts tungsten carbide cutting tips for precise incision of the work surface. Direct measurement of total coating thickness and thickness of individual coats of paint is a unique capability of the Tooke Paint Inspection Gage/Gauge. Thus, in addition to routine use, the OG212 Tooke Gage/Gauge II often serves as a referee instrument to calibrate indirect or non-destructive thickness measuring instruments. Applicatios: The Tooke Gage has been used to assess sandblast cleaning work, to measure plating and paint thickness on ceramics, metal, wood, and concrete, and even to measure protective backing thickness on mirrors.
